Verify a document
Is this the copy that was signed?
Check a PDF against the completed copy True Autograph delivered. You do not need an account, and the document is never uploaded.
Here’s how it works: when everyone has signed, we record a fingerprint of the exact PDF we email out. This page takes a fingerprint of your copy and compares the two. A match means nothing has changed. A mismatch tells you the file is different, but not who changed it or how.
How verification works
What does a match tell me?
That the file you checked is exactly the file we emailed when everyone finished signing: every page, every signature, every character. If even one byte had been changed, it wouldn’t match.
What should I double-check after a match?
That it’s the agreement you think it is. A match proves the file is genuine and unchanged. It doesn’t prove which deal it belongs to, so someone could show you a real document from a different agreement. Look at the True Autograph ID shown with the result, and make sure it’s the same ID printed at the bottom of every page of your copy. Then check the document title, the names, and the dates on the certificate page at the end.
The certificate page prints a fingerprint. Couldn’t someone copy it onto a fake?
No. We never read any number printed inside the PDF. Your browser works out the fingerprint of the file itself, and we compare that with our record. The fingerprint printed on the certificate page belongs to the original document, from before anyone signed. If someone attaches a real certificate page, or copies its numbers, onto a different document, the file is different, so its fingerprint is different too, and it won’t match.
Why didn’t my copy match?
It isn’t the exact file we delivered. That doesn’t automatically mean it was forged. Printing to PDF, saving it again in a PDF editor, or passing it through some email systems can change the file without changing what it says. If you can, check the original attachment from the completion email. Documents completed before September 2026 weren’t fingerprinted, so they can’t be checked here. For those, contact the sender, or us, with the True Autograph ID printed on the pages.
Does my document get uploaded?
No. The file stays on your device. Your browser calculates the fingerprint, and only that 64-character code is sent to us. A fingerprint can’t be turned back into the document, so we never see what it says.
What is a SHA-256 fingerprint?
A 64-character code calculated from every byte of a file. The same file always gives the same code, and changing anything, even a single comma, gives a completely different one. It’s a public, widely used standard, and nobody has ever found two different files that share one. That’s what makes it safe to publish exactly how this check works.
